We are interested in forming a Working Group as part of the Society for Disability Studies. This group will bring together students and faculty in Disability Studies and related fields. This group will be open to undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdoctoral fellows. The group will organize a series of events during the academic year 2022-23.
To begin the process of creating a working party, faculty and students should identify people who are already involved in Disability Studies. The Working Group will be funded by the Cogut Institute for the Humanities and will be launched in fall of 2022. After the working group has established guidelines for its operation, we will launch an event program to connect undergraduate and postdoctoral students, faculty, and scholars.
The mainstreaming of disabled students has been a central part of the arts and humanities’ history. For disabled students, art classes were often the first place to go in the United States. However, attitudes toward disability have not been constant across time.
